If you’re able to help out, please write your name on the sign-up sheet on the back bulletin board. The BHWAW (Brighton Heights Writers at Work)  group meets every third Monday from 7-9pm at the Brighton Heights Citizens’ Federation’s wonderful new gallery space at 3629 California Avenue, Brighton Heights. from the trunk of your car in the ECC parking lot  every second Saturday in June, July, August, and September  from 9am-2pm. Lisa Bruno has graciously volunteered to lead this group and invites all to participate (consider inviting some non-church attending friends to join you. Please consider supporting the Lovelink Orphanage so they can ensure every child receives a gift this Christmas. Every year we support the Lovelink Orphanage in Haiti through the Christmas in July program.   If so, a FREE community paper craft group gathers at the church every third Friday of the month at 6:30pm. This year, however, rather than collecting gifts the missions ministry would like to take up a special offering to share with the Lovelink Orphanage. Our next opportunity to serve at the  Light of Life Rescue Mission  is  Tuesday, August 6  from 4:45-6:00.   The next Junk in the Trunk sale is Saturday, July 13. On Sunday, July 21 a special offering will be taken in lieuof gifts. There is some discussion of having a men’s retreat in late July/early August. Normally we collect gifts for children and ship them to Lifeline Christian Mission to distribute at Christmas time in Haiti. Spaces are free and are first come, first serve.

Is this a good story?

October 31, 1806 I shouldn’t be writing this. It’s far too dangerous. But I have to let people know the dangers of what I have created. To start off you need to know about the stones, at the dawn of October 31, 1606, a magician created stones of elements. These elements were earth, water, fire, starlight, electricity, ice, nature, air, and so on. The stones were extremely powerful and would only work for very few people. The stones were lost a week later when townsfolk raided his house (wizards and witches weren’t exactly commonly liked at the time. or anytime,). The stones were sent throughout the world to find a master. When they did, the said person was granted the power of the element. Everything went fine for a while. But soon people started using the stones for bad. The good stone users had to work together to defeat them. As a good stone user I was sick of the evil side having equal power, because it gave them much too great a power. That’s where I came in. I worked to make a stone that would overpower the rest. As I said, mortals aren’t exactly fond of magic. So obviously the townsfolk were upset. I still managed to make the stone though. The Astronomers stone. This stone had harnessed the power of the universe. I had buried this stone in the---- I have to go. The townspeople have found me. Whoever finds this must never speak of it. Signed, Loretta the Witch CHAPTER 1 Jessica Nicholson Let’s start at the beginning. It was an utterly boring day and I was fixing another one of the post-its (Mirabel is her real name, but we call her that because she sticks to everyone she meets) “mistakes”. She had burned down the tree in my backyard. It is absolute torture being her neighbor. The little brat(Also known as my little sister, Maggie) thinks she’s just AMAZING just because she’s caught a few bad guys. Ok maybe I haven’t caught anyone but it’s not like I can do anything. I mean I have an earth stone for heaven’s sakes. What am I supposed to do grow a flower and make it all better? I wanted water a water stone as soon as I saw it, but sadly my sister got her snotty little hands on it. Me, my brother Michael, and my little sister Maggie were running in our little town park. All of a sudden I tripped and fell and I saw three little stones at my feet. Michael picked up a blue one, Maggie picked up a light blue stone. I picked up a green one. I didn’t know at the time but it was the LAMEST STONE EVER. I mean I guess I could have gotten starligh- “TIME TO COME IN JESSIE!!!!!!” Yelled Maggie. “Yeah yeah I’m coming I’m coming.” I replied. She then sent a large blast of water at my back. “YOU LITTLE BRAT!!!!!” I ran after her and went inside. I was stopped from wrapping vines around her neck from Michael. “She’s just ten she doesn’t know what she’s doing,” Said Michael. “What do you mean she’s ten? I’m pretty sure she can control throwing water at people!” I replied. Then the doorbell rang and to my surprise, it was Mirabel. “What do you want?” I said. “It’s not what I want; it’s what the M.C (Magic Council) wants. I really don’t understand why they need you there.” She rudely replied. “Yeah? And what exactly would they like with little stone users like us? They must have a lot of more stuff to handle like-“I started to say. “Look Jessica I didn’t come so you and your drab family can bore me now quit questioning me and let’s get moving,” She said as she rudely interrupted me. Me, my sister, and my brother then followed Mirabel to her backyard. “Wait couldn’t we have down this at our house?” asked Maggie. “We could have but your house is plain and boring. now let’s get on with it shall we?” she said to Maggie. We then used our magic to open a portal to the Magic Hall. It’s pretty simple all you really have to do is XXXXXXXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and then XXX XXXXXX XXXXX (Sorry apparently I’m not allowed to write that). “WOAH ITS SO PRETTY!!!!!” yelled Maggie, who had apparently never been in the Magic Hall before. The M.H. was technically the home to everything magic. Witches and wizards, fairies and sprites, even the occasional troll, came here. It was a trading center (even though I wouldn’t trade if I were you, merchants are pretty shady here and on Earth.) It also taught magic lessons for young witches and wizards, so if something comes flying at your face its probably an unsupervised magical brat. “Well come on I don’t have all day you know,” Said Mirabel, snapping us out of our trance. We went down the winding staircase to the lowest floor, where stone users meet (since we’re considered a lower form of magic we don’t exactly get a luxury pad to meet in). When we entered I was surprised to see a select few of the other stone users in my area. I was especially surprised to see the stone user council woman, Ms. Lily Ju, also known as my best friend’s mother. Sorry that its so long! I know it has a TON of errors too. I couldn't put this in the main thing because Its so long! But thats the story from top to bottom! Its not done yet though, i plan to add a lot more. Yeah, I know that the prologue needs a lot of work (same with the rest of the story :b). I was planning on rewriting from what I have now (I actually cut the story in half. It was moving along too fast.) But i wanted opinions on the original first. Oh and Its Jessica that can move vines and stuff like that :b

I think it's very creative as most 'elmentists' or whatever are born with the power, so it's a fresh start. The only thing I didn't like is that you may need to work on THE CAPITAL LETTERS!! as it's unprofessional. Example: "Get out of my room!" I yelled at my sister who was messing with my dresser. VS "GET OUT OF MY ROOM!!!" you get the point? yeah! but it's awesome and always remember the key to improve is writing! you know what they say, practice makes perfect.

It's pretty good, Micheal reminds me of Posion Ivy from Batman with the whole plant manipulation thing, totally excellent!
Zvi | Jun 24, 2013
I only read the prologue, which is okay. Three words every writer hears often during their career are 'Show, don't tell'. I'm afraid the prologue is all tell. It takes a lot longer to show all that you have told about, but it will make a better story. Also, you have a lot of vagueness. Consider finding an on line writers' circle for your genre (google is your friend) to exchange critiques with. You get as much benefit out of reviewing the works of others as you do from the feedback they give your own works. The Infamous Bell Witch of Tennessee

Creator: Charles Edwin Price | Biography & Autobiography - 1994-01-01

The Bell Witch Cave can be reached by turning from Highway 41, just past the Bell School, onto Bell Chapel Road and by following the signs. After traveling three-tenths ... A sign immediately in front says "Bell Cave Parking." The cave is open ...

Publisher: The Overmountain Press

About this book
No ghost in history could hold a candle to the infamous Bell Witch of Tennessee. Intelligent, crafty, violent -- the Bell Witch held the little town of Adams in a siege of terror for almost four years. Even today "Kate", as she is sometimes called, is still rumored to lurk in Robertson County, mostly in a small cave on a bluff overlooking Red River. And judging from the number of odd occurrences that still happen every day in the vicinity, the witch is probably still up to her old tricks. This is a well-researched account of the creepy doings of Tennessee's most malevolent, puzzling -- as well as notorious -- bugbear. The story begins when Kate first entered the home of John Bell, in 1817, and continues to the present day. Price used old memoirs and county records, as well as published sources and recently acquired interviews, to tell Kate's story.
